Game: Find the Happy Face
Why Does This Attention Training Work? (Happy Face Training)
Each time you think, speak, or act in a specific manner, a pattern or pathway is formed in the brain. After consciously repeating this several times, it becomes an automatic process.
For instance, when you learn to ride a bicycle, you are conscious of your actions. With sufficient practice, a pattern is established that runs automatically, allowing you to cycle without thinking about the mechanics of the process.
Similarly, if you often feel depressed, experience a sense of dread, find things tedious or challenging, or habitually focus on the negative aspects of situations, these are automatic patterns being replayed.
This game trains you to look for the positive or happy aspects of your daily life. Once you practice this sufficiently, it becomes an automatic pattern, and your attention will naturally gravitate towards the positive elements of your daily experiences.
If you direct your attention towards something negative, you will automatically feel worse. Conversely, focusing on something positive will inherently make you feel better.
This method can effectively alleviate depression, despondency, and negativity without the need for medication or any cost. Just a few minutes of training each day for about a month, and then occasionally to maintain the practice.
This is not medical advice, so if you are currently on medication, do not stop taking it abruptly, as this could lead to health issues. Any changes to your medication should be discussed with your doctor. However, this attention training may help you reduce or even eliminate the need for medication. If you are not currently taking medication, this training might prevent the future need for it.
Several research studies have confirmed the positive effects of this approach.
